Introduction to autism-teaching-L
Autism-teaching-L is an e-mail list for parents, professionals, and others who are working to teach a child or children with autism or other pervasive developmental disorders. The discussions on the list involve home, school, and center-based intructional programs, and encompass any of a wide variety of questions and answers about ideas for teaching specific skills, behavioral concerns, opinions on various teaching methods, styles, and philosophies, and much, much more.
Subscribing to the list
Subscribing to autism-teaching-L is easy. Simply send an e-mail to autism-teaching-l-request@polyxo.com.
In the subject or the body of the e-mail simply type the word subscribe followed by space and then a password you would like to use for the autism-teaching-L list. You will need this password to access the list archives or to unsubscribe from the list. So, if your address were "me@my.com" and you wanted your password to be "hotdog" you'd send an e-mail to autism-teaching-l-request@polyxo.com that looked like this:
subscribe hotdog
You will receive an e-mail from the autism-teaching-L mailing software stating that it received your message and asking you to confirm that you do, indeed, want to subscribe. This is to prevent your address from being subscribed without your permission. That message will contain additional directions, but, for most people, you'll simply need to reply to that message to confirm your subscription.
Subscribing to the digest
If you don't want to receive each e-mail posted to autism-teaching-L individually, but would rather receive a periodic digest which includes a number of postes combined into a single e-mail, simply add the word digest between the subscribe command and your password. Like so:
subscribe digest hotdog
Subscribing from a different address
If you want to subscribe an address that isn't the one you're writing from (if, for example, you're accessing the site from work and you want to subscribe your home e-mail address) simply add the address that you'd like subscribed after the password. Like this:
subscribe hotdog me@myhouse.net
You can throw a digest in there if you want that address to be subscribed to the digest version, as well.
Unsubscribing from the list
If you decide that you'd like to unsubscribe from autism-teaching-L, just send a message to autism-teaching-l-request@polyxo.com. In the subject or body of that e-mail, simply type unsubscribe followed by a space and then your password. You password is required to unsubscribe to prevvent your being unsubscribed without your permission.
So, if your password was hotdog, the command in your e-mail would look like this:
unsubscribe hotdog
If you've forgotten your password, contact list-owner@polyxo.com and I will help you unsubscribe.
Unsubscribing from a different address
If you want to unsubscribe an address that isn't the one from which you're writing, just tack on the address at the end of the command. Like this:
unsubscribe hotdog me@myhouse.net
Posting messages to the list
If you'd make a post to the autism-teaching-L list, simply send an e-mail to autism-teaching-l@polyxo.com
Replying to messages posted to the list
The autism-teaching-L list is set up so that when you hit the "Reply" button in your e-mail program your reply will be sent only to the original sender and not to the list. This is to reduce some of the clutter that often appears on some mailing lists, when messages that should be sent only to that person are mistakenly sent to the entire list.
If you'd like your reply to appear to the list as a whole, please use the "Reply-to-All" function instead of "Reply"
